Clausing/Colchester
Slant Bed CNC Lathes

| Unbeatable Value For The Money:
You strive to keep one step ahead of your competition but still have to watch your costs. The Clausing-Colchester range of STORM CNC lathes is designed specifically to help you achieve these objectives. Clausing-Colchester's Superior Build philosophy offers you maximum long-term benefits in terms of quality, productivity and reliability. With the STORM you can consistently produce precision, quality parts with excellent surface finish. Rapid cycle times, quick set-up and the power to machine a wide range of components and materials mean genuine productivity gains. This is exactly what you would expect from a top-of-the-line CNC lathe, but what you wouldn't expect is the unbeatable value for money the STORM offers. Low manufacturing costs and simplicity of design mean greater reliability and low operating costs - with no compromises on quality. Each STORM lathe is built to the most exacting DIN, ISO and CE standards in Europe's largest lathe factory, using high volume flow line production techniques specifically developed by Clausing Colchester to keep manufacturing costs to a minimum. Reduced cycle times mean huge savings in costs, which is why the STORM series is such an excellent value. |
| The Storm Package:
The STORM 80, 110, 210, and 310 CNC slant bed base is unique in the world's machine tool industry. Its advanced design features the world's most rigid, durable cast iron structure, based on a monocoque type construction with upper and lower sandwich layers interconnected by a vertical honeycomb. The one-piece construction also dispenses with the need for separate sub-castings and eliminates the need for precision leveling at installation. The precision ground top surface of the base is angled at 15º, the optimum angle, when combined with the 45º slant slide angle, for absorption of the forces generated by the STORM’s exceptionally high cutting performance. The STORM 50 and 90 have a massive cast iron 60° bed with precision ground surfaces mounted on an extra heavy-duty unstressed, filled fabricated base designed for strength, vibration absorption and thermal stability. As a result the base is over 20% heavier than comparable machines. |

| Clausing-Colchester’s computer-aided design pays the closest attention to detail to eliminate stress points, maximize heat dissipation and achieve unusually low thermal gradients throughout the structure. |
| Slideways
Clausing Colchester engineers have optimized slideway configuration to suit the specific requirements of each model. |

The STORM 50, 90, and 80 have ball linear guides in both
axes for high acceleration and short cycle times.
The new STORM 110 has ball linear guides on the Z (longitudinal) axis and through hardened dovetail slides (combined with PTFE slideway material) for maximum rigidity and first line damping effect. Both the STORM 210 and 310 use a massive version of the 110 configuration but using heavy roller linear guideways in the Z axis to handle the higher cutting forces. Headstock and Spindle The unique barrel shaped cast iron headstock, designed for low thermal distortion, comes with either high or low speed spindles supported by five ultra high precision GAMET bearings. Each spindle offers unusually large spindle bores for maximum workpiece capacity. |
| Control, Motors and Drives
Clausing Colchester and G. E. Fanuc have developed a unique control package specifically for the STORM, offering a very high level of integration. STORM 50, 90, 80, 210 and 310 turrets are driven by fast index Fanuc servo motors and the STORM MBF 1000 barfeed is fitted with an integrated Fanuc CNC axis. The MBF 1000 is the world's first /barfeeder system to include this feature. Hydraulics All STORM chucks and tailstocks are operated hydraulically for reliability, power, speed, safety and consistency of operation. Workholding With the exception of the STORM 80 dedicated bar machine, all STORM machines can be changed from chucking to bar operations in minutes. A choice of PRATT BURNERD power chucks is quickly interchangeable with the CRAWFORD Multibore, DIN or 16c collet systems. Pratt Burnerd chucks incorporate the unique Set-Rite™ feature ensuring concentricity of the chuck body, allowing the jaws to be adjusted to an accuracy of within 0.001", while the optional quick change versions can save as much as 20 minutes on each jaw changeover. |
